Beyond the Sample Library with Audio Modeling
A special event with the Academy of Scoring Arts on physical modeling.
On September 26, 2026, Audio Modeling will join the Academy of Scoring Arts in Glendale, California, for Beyond the Sample Library with Audio Modeling, a special in-person event exploring a different approach to virtual acoustic instruments.
At the heart of the event will be SWAM physical modeling technology, which recreates the behavior of acoustic instruments in real time.
Instead of relying on prerecorded samples, SWAM instruments respond continuously to the musician’s performance, allowing dynamics, articulation, phrasing, and timbre to evolve as the music is played.
The session will explore how this technology can fit into a modern composing and scoring workflow, from highly expressive solo performances to complete ensemble playing.
From SWAM Solo Instruments to PolySWAM
The event will include demonstrations of Audio Modeling instruments and technology, including PolySWAM, our first polyphonic orchestral instrument, developed in collaboration with Latin GRAMMY-winning producer Emanuele Ruffinengo.
PolySWAM extends the responsiveness of SWAM physical modeling into a polyphonic environment, allowing musicians to perform chords, orchestral sections, and complete ensembles in real time from a single controller.
During the session, we’ll take a closer look at how physical modeling works, how expressive control translates into the behavior of virtual acoustic instruments, and how these tools can support composers, orchestrators, producers, and performers.
From individual instrumental lines to ensemble-level performance, the focus remains the same: creating virtual instruments that respond directly to the musician.
Composition Contest
Following the event, the Academy of Scoring Arts will announce the details of a new composition contest in partnership with Audio Modeling.
Anyone who enters will receive a temporary license covering the entire Audio Modeling suite:
- SWAM Orchestra Bundle
- PolySWAM
- AMBIENTE
This will give participants the opportunity to create their submission using the full Audio Modeling ecosystem.
The winner will receive a perpetual license of the full SWAM suite, valued at more than $2,000.
