Audio Modeling’s Vision for Enhanced Accessibility

At Audio Modeling, our vision for accessibility in music production is expansive and forward-thinking. Initially, our SWAM products were developed with limited consideration for screen reader compatibility, relying heavily on the operating system and existing frameworks. Recognizing the inadequacy of this approach, we embraced the challenge of improving accessibility internally, enlisting the expertise of external consultants and testers.

We have actively suggested and promoted changes to the JUCE Accessibility API to address infrastructural issues and facilitate meaningful improvements.

Now we can integrate various accessibility features into our applications, making them more inclusive and user-friendly.

Here are the key features offered by the JUCE Accessibility API:

  • Title, description, and help text for UI elements
  • Programmatic access to UI elements and text
  • Interaction with UI elements
  • Full UI keyboard navigation
  • Posting notifications to listening clients

While these efforts represent an initial step, our broader vision is to develop solutions that render screen readers obsolete, delivering a seamless and enjoyable experience for all users.

Our collaboration with Jason Dasent has been pivotal in improving screen reader functionality and user experience, making our tools more intuitive and user-friendly for visually impaired and blind users. This collaboration represents a significant step towards our broader vision of a fully inclusive music production environment.
